Founded in 1980, the Iowa Comic Book Club is dedicated to fostering a love for comic books and related media throughout the state. We aim to make Iowa a hub for comic book fans and families by organizing events, book clubs, and educational initiatives that celebrate the art form and its cultural significance. Join us as we work to spread the joy of reading and appreciating comic books across the Hawkeye State.
ICon:
ICon is a large Comic Convention where we bring in nationally known comic artists and writers. We spotlight Iowa comic book creators and professionals. The event features vendors of new and old comics, memorabilia, toys, collectibles, as well as Iowa Craft Masters with various wonders. We hold ICon once a year, if possible.
MinICON:
MinICON includes all the above but does not fly in creators from outside. The focus is solely on Iowa creators. We typically have two MinICON shows a year, one in the spring and one in the fall.
Becoming a vendor for the Minicon is easy. Just go to the "How to be a Vendor" page and download the Dealer and Artist Table Request Form. You may then either send the completed form via email through the Contact Us section and pay the fees via PayPal or mail the form and check to the address noted on the form.
The Iowa Comic Club meets every third Sunday at the Urbandale Public Library, 3520 86th St, Urbandale, IA 50322. The meeting starts at 1:00 PM and ends around 4:00 PM. Our meetings usually have an agenda covering topics such as new finds, convention reviews, discussions about artists and stories, the history of the industry, how to grade comics, and how to care for a collection.
Besides the meetings, we attend comic book conventions or related activities around the Midwest as a group. Another significant part of the club is organizing a comic book convention. This is managed by a group of club members handling all the logistics, with contributions of time and oversight from other members.
The club is administered by a four-member panel: the president, the vice president, the treasurer, and the secretary. They are elected from the club members for a two-year term.
The current administrators are:
President: John Young
Vice-President: Jim Lynch
Treasurer: Sean Jenkins
We do not have a secretary at this time, so John and Sean share the responsibilities.
To become a member, you need to:
Attend meetings regularly.
Pay an annual due of $10.00.
Help out at activities when you can.
The most important requirement is to have a love of comics!
